Service to take place in the grounds and in the ‘Cathedral to Ale.’
After the success of last year’s service at Biddenden Vineyard, the Kent County Harvest Thanksgiving service will take place at Goody Ales in Herne Bay. Organised by the Diocese of Canterbury’s Communities and Partnerships Framework, the service will take place in the grounds on Sunday 7 October at 5.30pm.
The service has traditionally taken place in Canterbury Cathedral, but last year the organisers decided to try something different and, thanks to the success of the event, once again it will be held outdoors.
“The success of last years’ event and the way that everyone embraced the change made us feel that another visit to one of Kent’s producers would be in order,” Canon Caroline Pinchbeck, ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½Ò•îl of the Communities and Partnerships Framework, explains. “Goody Ales produce a wide range of ales a number of which link perfectly with the Service such as Good Harvest. We hope that the weather doesn’t let us down and we can spend a wonderful evening in the Kent Countryside.”
Throughout September and October many local churches will have held their own Harvest services, however the Kent County Harvest Thanksgiving Service offers one of the few opportunities for people to give thanks for the whole produce of the county of Kent. It also offers a time for many of the local farmers, producers and rural businesses to come together as a community to celebrate and give thanks for a harvest safely gathered in.
Rt Rev Trevor Willmott the Bishop of Dover will lead the service which will give thanks to God for the amazing produce of Kent, and for the contribution made by those in our food, farming and agricultural industries. The service will start at 5.30pm. For catering purposes, if you would like to attend please email Karen Adams.
