Women in Ministry - June event exploring the barriers and how to overcome them
18/04/19
Celebrations marking 25 years of female priests were held this year yet the number of young women joining the clergy is low.
The Dioceses of Canterbury, Chichester and Rochester have teamed up to host an afternoon of discovery and exploration, an event aimed at 18-30 year-olds to explore opportunities in ministry.
Diocesan Vocations Officer Revd Canon Joss Walker said: "Young women are under-represented in ordained ministry generally, and we don’t have many priests in their 20s in this Diocese.
"There are some specific issues for younger women wondering if God is calling them. There is that instinct to find a partner, maybe have children and get a good career. And then, much later on, we answer the call and that’s great.
"There are a million reasons not to answer the calling sooner and we want to explore those barriers and look at possible ways forward.
"If you think it is something God is nudging you about, this is the event for you."
The afternoon will be held at St Benedict’s Centre in West Malling on Saturday 1 June from 12.30pm to 5pm. For more information click here.
